Cloud Computing – Essential For Remote Workers

If you’re a remote worker, telecommuter friendly tools like the upcoming Google’s GDrive will make your life much easier. Most professionals work remotely at least some of the time and more people than ever telecommute on a regular basis.  Being able to access your hard drive from anywhere certainly makes it easier for you to maximize productivity when you’re not in your office or cubicle.

Cloud Computing replaces cubicle computing and makes it easier for telecommuting.

What could tools like Gdrive make it easy for you to do?

  1. Access your files on your hard drive from anywhere. This way you don’t have to carefully plan for working from home or working from a client’s site.
  2. Upload work you’re doing away from the office directly to your office environment (aka your hard drive) so that you can work from where you left off the next time you log in —regardless of where you are.
  3. Collaborate with colleagues easier

More companies than ever are embracing telecommuting because of cloud computing. Instead of having to be intricately prepared to work away from your regular workspace, you can literally do your job effectively and productively from anywhere.

When is G-Drive coming?

Your guess is as good as anyone’s. A lot of speculation states that Google is releasing it in 2009. A lot of competitors are putting out Gdrive clones that are either free or fee based but a lot of companies and entrepreneurs are very excited about seeing Google’s take on online storage and many say that it’ll be more robust than competitors, well integrated with other Google apps, and best of all, it’s probably going to be free to use.
